Bicocca Winter School (Milan, 2-6 February 2015)

How to get here (outdated information)

Public transports in Milan (Metro, Tram, Bus) are run by the company ATM (timetables, Metro network map). Local trains are run by the company Trenord (timetables). A urban ticket costs 1,50 euros (not sold on board).

The Department of Mathematics is at walking distance (≤10 min) from several stations, shown in this map:

  • Metro Line 5 station "Bicocca";
  • Tram Line 7 station "Università Bicocca Scienza" or "Greco";
  • Bus Line 87 station "Arcimboldi Ateneo Nuovo";
  • Train station "Milano Greco Pirelli".

From Milan train stations

  • From Milano Centrale train station, take the Metro Line 3 in direction "Comasina", get off at "Zara" (2 stops), then take Metro Line 5 in direction "Bignami" and get off at "Bicocca" (4 stops).

    Alternatively, take the Bus Line 87, which leads directly close to the Math Department (but is less frequent than the Metro).

  • From Milano Porta Garibaldi train station, take the Metro Line 5 in direction "Bignami" and get off at "Bicocca" (6 stops).

    Alternatively, take a regional train to "Milano Greco Pirelli" (faster, but less frequent than the Metro and more subject to delays).

  • From Milano Lambrate train station, take a regional/local train stopping at "Milano Greco Pirelli" (timetables).

From Milan airports

Milan main airports are Linate (smaller, close to the town), Malpensa (bigger, quite distant) and Orio al Serio (Bergamo's airport, roughly as distant as Malpensa).

  • From Malpensa Terminal 1, take a train (Malpensa Express) to Milano Centrale and/or Porta Garibaldi stations. Alternatively, from either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, take a bus (Malpensa Shuttle or Malpensa Bus Express) to Milano Centrale station. There is a free shuttle bus linking the two terminals.
  • From Linate, take either a urban bus (Line 73 or X73) to San Babila Metro station, or a shuttle bus to Milano Centrale train station.
  • From Orio al Serio, take a shuttle bus to Milano Centrale train station.

Beware that taxis can be expensive. A ride from Malpensa to the city costs 90 euros (fixed rate). A ride from Linate is cheaper, with rates depending on traffic and time. More information on Wikitravel.
